For us, it was a special meeting – every detail gave us an experience with tradition and royal luxury in the midst of Alpine peace.

Vila Muhr is located in the heart of Bohinj, in one of the most beautiful corners of the Triglav National Park. Surrounded by spruce forests and the crystal clear waters of Lake Bohinj, it stands at the crossroads of natural harmony and rich history. These magical places echo with the stories of the former nobility, hunters and simple people whose lives were anything but ordinary – of the travellers, artists and visionaries who here found shelter, inspiration and a genuine connection with unspoilt nature. The energy of the past is woven into every stone and every wooden detail of the villa, is permeated with the tranquillity of unspoilt nature and the grandeur that is the rich tradition of the place, which has remained unchanged for centuries.
As we sat at the table, surrounded by soft light and natural textures, the space embraced us with a feeling of peace and serenity. Everything was in place, without excess, but with the perfect amount of luxury that is not ostentatious, but quietly appeals.

The armchair by the window invites you to morning coffee, hand-picked bed linen to a relaxing evening, and the soft light and the scent of wood create the feeling of a perfect sanctuary. The space is not only aesthetically pleasing, but created for pleasure. Every angle seems to say that you can seriously take some time out for yourself.
On arrival we already felt that the vila was not created just to impress, but to provide an experience. The warmth of natural materials, soft angles for sitting and details like the crystal on the table give it a special energy that is grounding and calming.
We did not experience the vila’s luxury as something to show off, but more as an intimate feeling, that we found in the soft texture of the cushion, in the hum of the water filling the bathtub, in the silence that invites you to stop and look into space and into yourself. To feel it, you must be present. And when you are, you find that in the simplicity there is a wealth.

Architectural heritage with a vision for the future
We experienced Vila Muhr as an architectural tribute to the past and the boutique contemporary expression of sustainable aesthetics. Its image is the result of a careful study of historical sources and the architectural elements of the former hunting residence. The façade has been restored with its original stone, which was part of the original building, and the reinterpreted details preserve the character of the characteristic silhouette of the vila, as it once adorned Bohinj. The interplay of history and contemporary design is also reflected in the interior: unique design elements, carefully considered lighting and subtle architectural accents create an ambience that feels orderly, elegant and planned. Every corner of the vila expresses a coherence with history, while offering a level of modern comfort that we could clearly identify during our stay.
A story of sophisticated flavours
Influenced by local ingredients, modern cooking techniques and international influences, we had a unique culinary experience in the Vila Muhr restaurant under the direction of Chef Davor Arnautović. In a space where the aesthetics of nature are seen in every detail, we enjoyed dishes that indulged our senses and soothed us. Each dish was a tribute to Bohinj, – from the organic produce to fresh herbs and seasonal delicacies from local farms. The plates carried the stories of the region, complemented by carefully selected wine accompaniments. The flavours were balanced and pure, and the dishes were prepared with a distinct sense of season and origin. The tasting dinner rounded off our visit – a meeting of tradition and modernity in a truly intimate setting.

We enjoyed ourselves on a panoramic balcony, amidst the warmth of natural materials and carefully crafted details that create an atmosphere of perfect serenity. The vila offers a wide range of boutique experiences ranging from private guided tours, art and culinary workshops, to exploring the hidden corners of Bohinj. Visitors can take part in exclusive events: evenings with live music, wine tastings and boutique wedding ceremonies in an authentic natural setting. Fully customised business events are also available in the conference room, where the elegant ambience and personal approach to organisation are complemented by state-of-the-art technology.

Our wellbeing was at the centre of everything; the rooms are designed for total relaxation – from the subtle scents, soft textures and comfortable lounges to lighting that follows the natural rhythm of the day. We pampered ourselves in a private wellness corner in the sauna, in the quiet sound therapy and in meditation on the terrace overlooking Lake Bohinj. boutique experience of wellbeing includes personalised treatments, ranging from aromatherapy massages to relaxation rituals that draw inspiration from nature. Our suites had a fireplace and luxurious bathtub or sauna, creating the perfect retreat. Wood & Sustainability
Wood is at the heart of Vila Muhr’s architecture and interiors, its story is interwoven with sustainability, tradition and beauty of the highest quality. All wooden elements are exclusively of Slovenian origin, processed without chemical coating, which expresses eco-responsibility and the beauty of natural materials. The façade of the upper part is made of carbonised wood, which provides a natural protection and weather resistance. The interior expresses respect for wood as a living material – in places. recycled old wood is used, which is sanded and polished with oils. In the dining room, we were enchanted by a chandelier made of beech roots, which not only tells the story of nature but also symbolises the sincere connection to the environment from which the vila draws its inspiration.
Vila Muhr preserves the historic stamp of the space, while at the same time establishing sustainability as the foundation for future living. Its construction reflects a caring attitude towards the environment, respect for heritage and the search for innovative living solutions. The building is designed to optimally utilise natural light, whereas the natural insulation and carefully designed façade cladding helps to maintain its energy efficiency. A stone in the ground floor originates from the original vila, giving new life to this authentic architectural element. Our impression? Rarely do tradition and sustainability merge into a space with such a sense of feeling.
During our visit, we realised that this is a place where the past lives on in the world of today. The design of the vila is based on respect for the history and natural landscape of Bohinj. It draws on the historical sources in which the vila regains its cultural role in the historical fabric of Bohinj. They used the characteristic architectural elements of the area – from reinterpreted wooden balconies to the stone foundations characteristic of mountain residences. With this, they have created a respectful connection between the past and the present, which we experienced quite strongly. A nice example of this is the underground tunnel connecting to the Hotel Bohinj: it serves as an exhibition space that reveals to visitors the history of the vila and its role in the broader Bohinj area.
At Vila Muhr, objects are not just beautiful, they also speak to the attentive visitor. They do not impose themselves, but they entrust many things to those who can look deeper. Then, you can also see that you are not just a guest, but a part of a story that is always being written.

This morning, Villa Muhr is drowning in a thick fog that lazily wraps around its wooden contours. The weather calls for staying in bed and letting time slip by. But this morning is no time for lounging. Today is our last day in Bohinj. I know that Lili is already on the yoga mat at this hour, but I prefer to use the walking poles. I wrap a scarf around me, put on a hat and go for a quick walk by the lake before breakfast …
