An example of new boutique luxury
The hotel with the oldest tradition in Bohinj is small, boutique and looks magical, possibly also because of the vintage Austro-Hungarian appearance upgraded by the addition of modern architecture reflecting the best the new era has to offer. The façade layouts are charming, including the renovated construction and decorative elements from the previous century. But the authentic boutique character and a new definition of luxury are not revealed by the hand-forged fence or the façade of the Sunrose 7, but by experiencing its detox concept that focusses on us and our mindfulness.
Exclusive oasis for adults

Welcome to Bohinjska Bistrica
Sunrose 7 is situated in Bohinjska Bistrica, an important tourist location in the Bohinj region, which represents the centre of the Municipality of Bohinj and also the centre of the geographical area of Bohinj with some 1,800 residents.
The town is a perfect starting point for trips to Lake Bohinj and hikes to Mt Črna prst, Mt Vogel, Mt Komna and Mt Ratitovec. There’s also the Kobla Ski Resort, and the famous Bohinj railway tunnel connecting the Gorenjska and Primorska regions can be found not far from the hotel.

The hotel invites guests to return to nature, establish mutual connections and co-create a better world by means of top cuisine, sustainable practices and a unique digital detox concept.
“Staying in this unique concept has put to the forefront our mindfulness, attention to the environment and recognition of personal wellbeing. We’re grateful for this experience, which we believe is shared by many of their guests.”
Lili & Dušan

Every room boasts its own special characteristics, unique atmosphere, and view of the surrounding area. Each tells its own story with unique furniture made from Slovenian wood.
“This luxury is not limited just to material things but extends to their unique digital detox concept. The guests are invited to break free from screens and dive into genuine moments, which is an excellent response to the challenges of modern times.”

The rooms lack TV sets, radios or other electronic devices and thus enable authentic connections with oneself and other people.
“It’s difficult to dismiss their invitation to exchange a screen for a book. Such a retreat isn’t just an interesting philosophy, but a specific and tangible experience we haven’t seen anywhere before.”

A welcome exploration of internal balance with nature, books and genuine feelings.
Boutique experiences & Well-being
In a combination of various styles
The rooms have no multimedia, but they have triple anti-noise glazing and soundproofed walls. The substantial wood furniture is different in every room and was made in Slovenia from local timber. We particularly liked the rooms in the old section as they reflect the spirit of the hotel’s 130 years of tradition. Accommodation is also provided in the new extension, where modern and local styles meet minimalist Alpine design. The rooms are connected with a massive wooden staircase that combines the traditional and modern and is topped off with a chandelier made from hand-forged brass.
Our first impressions didn’t change throughout our stay. This place is about comfort and high-level homeliness with witty accessories from the local environment.
The delicious cuisine of chef Jože
Jože Godec discovered his passion for cooking at home, while working at the stove next to his mother Marija. As a child, he enjoyed making gnocchi and homemade pasta and growing vegetables in the garden of his home. His longtime dedication to creating culinary masterpieces was recognised by a Gault & Millau accolade. Nowadays, his cuisine is particularly distinguished by his implementation of new culinary trends and the use of fresh and high-quality ingredients.
Lili was impressed by the soups and fish dishes and Dušan enjoyed the meat dishes and desserts, of course. But both were excited about the breakfasts that combined the flavours of Bohinjsko with different delicious smoothies every day, local ingredients and creative service. The wine selection was exquisite. We took a particular liking to the charming Sutor Red.
The Zlata vila wellness space and biodynamic swimming pool
The concept and image of the intimate wellness space were inspired by the stories of high-mountain fairies who dwell in the hidden corners of Bohinj. The design is ingenious, and the offer executed perfectly. It comprises a hot tub in the hues of Triglav’s seven lakes, pearl bath therapy with the ionised air of the Pokljuka Plateau, a Finnish sauna and aromatherapy with local herbs, Bohinj rain with a hot-cold massage shower, an ice-cold waterfall and sound therapy featuring the sounds of Bohinj forests. Their latest acquisition is a boutique biodynamic swimming pool sited in the garden. Many guests swam in it to refresh and we were no exceptions. Perhaps the only difference was that we used it before breakfast when the air was still quite crisp outside.
Nature, nature, nature
The nearest natural oasis is right in the hotel garden. In addition to 130-year-old chestnut trees, wonderful plants surrounding the biodynamic swimming pool and the proximity of the stream that blesses the hotel garden with a murmuring soundtrack make up the basic factors of wellbeing. Across the road, the old Ceconi Park can be found. Its inspiring and very carefully maintained grounds attract numerous visitors. The possibilities for experiencing nature are practically limitless. You can discover natural beauty on foot or a bike or in a boat. Lili and I treated ourselves to two unforgettable adventures: we rode our bikes to Lake Bohinj and onwards to the Voje Valley and then we took a raft down the Sava Bohinjka River.

Oasis of internal balance
A walk through the chestnut tree alley, the proximity to the stream and the biodynamic pool generate an oasis of tranquillity and retreat that supports internal balance.
This hotel understands our greatest ally when seeking internal peace. A digital detox is not an opportunity to spend your day differently, but a sincere invitation to connect with oneself and nature more intensively.

Wood & Sustainability
The 130-year-old chestnut tree alley that gives the soul to their garden and hotel is almost a sacred space. The interior facilities feature wood of Slovenian origin. The wooden furniture is unique and was made for every room individually. In accordance with the upcycling principle, wood more than 100 years old was given new life in the form of wall coverings in the resting area of the wellness space.
Sustainability is part of the corporate identity of the Sunrose 7. For their efforts in sustainability, the hotel has received numerous awards and expert recognition: the Green Key, the Travelife international certificate, the Bohinjsko/From Bohinj certificate, Slovenia Green, the Triglav National Park Quality Label and the Meeting Star Award for exceptional achievements in congress tourism.
Their digital detox concept is unique and certainly something special in the wider region as well. It focuses on guests and their wellbeing and is accompanied by a culinary offer that places an emphasis on natural and local ingredients. We were happy to use the certified organic cosmetics provided in the bathrooms and the textiles made from eco-friendly cotton.
High efficiency heat pumps are used for heating and cooling. Other elements include built-in Slovenian glass and thin-layer eco-friendly ceramics. Both fireplaces feature in-built hot water exchangers. An eco-friendly irrigation system that adapts to soil moisture and precipitation enables the irrigation of the garden with rainwater. The hotel is committed to using local produce and services, even employing, almost exclusively, the residents of the Bohinjsko region.
For the hotel construction and reconstruction, the best materials were selected in accordance with the principle of long-term benefits for people and the environment. It’s impossible to overlook their daily efforts to provide only the best to their guests, the local environment and nature and their sincere appeal to get connected and engaged in the efforts for a better future.

“When the waking morning reveals the 100-year-old chestnut trees and presents the view of the mountain peaks, you realise that the past night brought more than just sleep. The connection with nature derives from the carefully designed details of the furniture and rooms, and their digital detox becomes part of your own morning routine.”

WOOD WE GO
on a visit

An early morning meditation on the delights offered by the new Bohinj luxury hotel
- Blog; Hotel Sunrose 7; 23 decembra, 2023
I open my eyes in the middle of the night at five past three, feeling a clear need to go where even the king goes alone. Did I have one too many glasses of excellent Sutor at dinner, and has this prevented me from sleeping through the night? The elegant velvety red wine with a bouquet of ripe fruit, including plums and even jam, went well with the pearl barley, vegetables, ginger, tarragon, horseradish and smoked Bohinj trout. With a series of inspiring culinary creations, chef Jože Godec, the man at the forefront of the Sunrose’s award-winning gastronomy, helped to bring a wonderful end to our actively spent day. Apparently, however, a little too much of that good food was partly responsible for kick-starting the early morning programme in my brain.
