Welcome to the Solčava region

The Logar Valley is one of the most beautiful Alpine glacial valleys in Europe. It cuts a swathe into the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in the north of Slovenia. It’s one of the three glorious valleys of the Solčava region, where the harmony between tradition and nature is put to the forefront through thoughtful sustainable development. As an added value along with agriculture and forestry, tourism offers a break in the peaceful surroundings of the landscape park and numerous activities in pristine nature.

Boutique experiences & Well-being

As local as it can get

The chefs of the Hotel Plesnik use local and organic produce sourced from the surrounding high mountain farms and consistently state the provenance of their ingredients on the menus. We knew which farm the yoghurt was from, who grew the potatoes, who made the cheese and who caught the trout. Pristine nature is served with love on every plate.
We were thrilled about the abundant organic breakfasts. Dušan was particularly impressed by the cured meats and Lili by the jams and elderflower juice made by the family. Dinners were genuine gourmet pampering sessions featuring local meat, vegetarian or vegan specialities. Individually adjusted menus based on the recommendations of the hotel’s Ayurvedic specialist are prepared as part of their Ayurvedic packages.

Ayurvedic journey towards internal harmony

The wellness pampering offered by the Hotel Plesnik is supplemented by unique Ayurvedic treatments and packages implemented under the watchful eye of the Ayurvedic specialist, Dr Dayal Joy of Kerala in southern India. The main goal of this oldest science of life is to harmonise the body, mind and soul, which is why it has to be practised in a place where the healing energies of nature are the strongest. Due to its unique combination of inexhaustible environmental energies, marvellous Alpine landscape and fresh air, the Logar Valley is perfect for re-setting the body and mind back into natural harmony. We were fascinated by the holistic Ayurvedic massage and the individual counselling of Dr Dayal, who’s not only a remarkable expert, but also an insightful therapist and a fascinating person to chat with.

Alpine wellness within and outside the hotel

The hotel wellness space is comprised of a mutually connected heated whirlpool, relaxation areas with comfortable rest chairs, massage studios and Turkish, Finnish and bio saunas. You can enjoy Ayurvedic and classical massages and choose from a variety of programmes and treatments for relaxation, wellbeing, rejuvenation and detox. You can fill up with new energy if your programmes are combined with yoga sessions and a menu adjusted to your needs.
Additional and welcome relaxation or rejuvenation can be found in the unheated natural pond filled with water from the nearby Palenk Waterfall. Lili and I swam in it every morning before breakfast. The majority of other guests got comfortable next to it only in the afternoon, when it was nicely warmed up by the sun.

Hiking, cycling and mountaineering

The Logar Valley is a paradise for adrenaline enthusiasts and an ideal starting point for long and short hikes that uncover fantastic views of the neighbouring peaks. We went on a day-long trip along the Solčava Panoramic Road on mountain e-bikes rented at the hotel and were blown away by the views of the Solčava glacial valleys.
If cycling is not your thing, you can rent hiking poles at the hotel. There are just as many enticing possibilities and destinations for hiking and mountaineering as there are for cycling. Take a walk along the valley to the Rinka Waterfall or at least to the Palenk Waterfall, which is just a stone’s throw away from the hotel. You can also explore the Potočka Zijalka cave, visit the spring of the Črna Stream, and enjoy canyoning or fly-fishing on the Savinja River.

The Plesnik family have been rooted in the Logar Valley for 700 years. They know how important it is to seek contact with nature so that our travels can have a positive impact on our lives and help us find ourselves. The nature and energy of their valley was combined into a whole and they designed the concept of a holistic acceptance of oneself and one’s surroundings.

Water, stone and wood are natural elements that are harmoniously integrated into a whole in the Hotel Plesnik. Wood can be touched anywhere. In particular, the restaurant and the hunting room decorated in a distinct Alpine style proudly evoke local tradition. Wooden floors, walls, ceilings and artfully crafted wooden chairs create a friendly and homely ambience. Look through the window on any side of the valley and you’ll always see forest. You won’t regret it if you – like us – sit awhile under the Plesnik elm, an old solitary tree not far from the hotel.

The Hotel Plesnik strives throughout for sustainable development, ecotourism and sustainable use of resources. For decades, they’ve been devoted to the conservation of natural local resources and cultural identity. Their offer is based on genuine contact with nature and its healing energies and has spread outside the hotel walls into the embrace of pristine nature by means of the Alpine eco wellness. Sustainability is written in their genes; this is how their ancestors lived. The ones who left them a beautifully preserved environment and the awareness and commitment to protect nature.

Proud holders of environmental labels

Numerous recognitions and awards reflect these ancestral traditions and guide the current generation to think and act sustainably. They are most proud of the Green Globe environmental certificate, which isn’t yet common in Slovenia and requires an annual audit. They are also proud of their participation in the Green Scheme of Slovenian Tourism, which confirms the authenticity of their sustainable development efforts. The hotel has been awarded another two flattering international titles, Luxury Boutique Hotel of the Year and Luxury Eco-Friendly Hotel of The Year.

The local architecture and design maintain the sense of homeliness. They evolved from a sustainability concept that reflects respect for nature and cultural heritage. We stop our bikes, take off our helmets and step onto the broad wooden platform of the vantage point on the Solčava Panoramic Road. After a gulp of the natural mineral water with which Lili filled the bottle several kilometres back, we stand still, surrounded by greenery and the sounds of nature. It seems that every thought is calm, and every breath is linked with the incredible beauty of this place.
