On the throne of the Alpine lake kingdom
The Hotel Bohinj, situated in the heart of Triglav National Park, only a stone’s throw away from the largest Slovenian natural lake, narrates an original, hedonistic and sensual story about the world at the foot of Slovenia’s highest mountain. With an extraordinary natural backdrop and a respectful attitude towards natural values and local traditions, it offered us a genuine experience through the timeless energy of the place, its inspiring wood architecture, original culinary delights, superb wellness facilities and opportunity to engage in fascinating adventures.
A unique story and location
The hotel inspires us with the omnipresent story of the four courageous men who were the first to climb the highest Slovenian peak. The hotel attracts us with its fabulous location and original character and spoils us with the natural gems hidden in the surrounding area. The ingenious design and excellent cuisine also draw from nature, the local environment and tradition. In many respects, the hotel is a brilliant example of sustainable tourism. It has 69 rooms equipped with furnishings made from selected natural materials and adorned with the silhouettes of Bohinj mountains with the motif of Mt Triglav at the centre. The interior boasts a unique design made by local artisans.

Welcome to Triglav National Park
The hotel’s location is stunning. Situated on a raised plateau, it provides special seclusion, while still commanding magnificent views of Mt Triglav, the Julian Alps, Lake Bohinj, the fairy-tale church of St John the Baptist and the Jezernica River, the second shortest river in Slovenia. The hotel’s appearance and its offer reflect this fantastic natural backdrop, as well as the traditions of the local environment and a respectful relationship with the only Slovenian national park. In this land of myths and legends, people maintain a deep connection with natural, historical and cultural traditions.

Every room is thoughtfully designed to allow complete relaxation and comfort for guests. Wooden elements, such as headboards with a cut-out silhouette of Mt Triglav and ingenious wood coverings, generate an authentic and natural ambience that is perfectly in tune with surrounding nature.
The rooms ooze comfort, warmth and modern design in which wood plays a key role. Every detail was carefully selected to add to the aesthetics of the whole and highlight the uniqueness of this place.
“Warm wooden tones intertwine with contemporary elements, generating a special magic and atmosphere that has completely charmed us, just like many other guests.”
Lili in Dušan
The fireplace, which is lit up every evening, serves as the centre of social activities. The guests constantly gather around it, either to converse, read books or simply gaze at the fire
Carefully selected details, such as comfy armchairs or soft carpets, complete the entire experience and generate a warm and cosy environment.
In the embrace of nature, comfort and tradition, the Hotel Bohinj creates a one-of-a-kind sanctuary in the heart of Triglav National Park.
Butična doživetja & Dobro počutje
Traces of the past and heart-felt stories
A marvellous ambience in wood and connection with tradition, communicative and very helpful staff with appealing stories at every step along the way – these are the things that make the Hotel Bohinj extraordinary. The stylish graphic imagery, with its roots in tradition, is skilfully incorporated through all rooms and the offer. The most popular story speaks about the four brave men who were the first to conquer Mt Triglav in 1778. The monument dedicated to them can be found below the edge of the hotel lawn. As spiritual guides of this place, their silhouettes appear throughout the hotel, sometimes even in humorous inscriptions on hotel equipment. Also read the one that describes the most famous resident of the old Hotel Kompas, Max the cat. Ask at the reception desk where to find the traces left by the architects in his memory.
Flavours of Bohinj in every morsel
To start the day in the best way, the hotel provides a luxurious breakfast comprised of homemade cured meats, high-quality cheeses and curds from local farmers, homemade butter, pates and spreads, fresh yoghurts, cereals, seasonal fruit, and freshly baked cakes and pastry from the hotel pastry shop. The hotel is proud to cooperate with small local farmers, many of whose products are embellished with the Bohinjsko/From Bohinj label, confirming the authenticity of the local ingredients. Lunches and dinners feature seasonal menus. Lili enjoyed a zander fillet on vegetables and Dušan licked his lips in anticipation of a delicious beef sirloin (medium+) with house dark sauce. The wine that went with both dishes was Gredič red Dolfo from the Goriška Brda Hills, a rich red with a soft texture and balsamic aroma.
Paradise for adrenaline seekers
Hiking, mountaineering, cycling or discovering pristine corners of the Bohinj Valley are the most popular activities. Hikers and mountaineers can find numerous easy lowland hiking trails in Bohinj as well as challenging climbing routes among the snow-capped peaks of the Julian Alps. With more than 300 kilometres of marked trails, the area is a true paradise for hikers. The Bohinj mountains are some of the most popular destinations for ski touring, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or sleighing. The lake and rivers are ideal for kayaking, rafting, canyoning and SUPing in the summer, and flyfishing enthusiasts can also find great angling spots. Do you crave more adrenaline? There’s plenty of attractive climbing sites offering various levels of difficulty. Look up into the sky and you’ll see another popular sport: paragliding.
Spa pampering in the embrace of nature
The innovatively designed hotel wellness centre combines the beauty of the surrounding natural environment, clean mountain air and fresh Alpine water. To ensure true relaxation, the wellness is intended only for person above the age of 18. It includes Finnish and Turkish saunas and enables indulgent soaking in the outdoor whirlpool and relaxing in the salt room, where you can learn about the Slovenian connection with salt. On summer mornings, it’s possible to enjoy intimate pampering with a healthy and delicious breakfast enriched with a glass of sparkling wine enjoyed next to the pool or in it, while savouring the privileged view of the majestic Julian Alps. If you’re in the mood for some serious swimming, you can jump into the largest Slovenian natural swimming pool, Lake Bohinj, which is in the immediate vicinity.
Through flavours, music and socialising to the hotel’s own essence
The hotel’s club can be the venue for your own style of partying. It’s possible to privately hire it for a night and create an unforgettable party experience that’s entirely to your taste. This is that interesting space you lack at home. It enables an unparalleled experience, whether that’s a magical end to the day or the start of an unforgettable night. And, what’s more, you can liven it up even further with a tasting of supreme wines. Or, perhaps a cocktail, as we did.
Wood & Sustainability
Wood solutions were tailored specifically for the hotel. The hotel exterior, with its balconies and external envelope in silvered larch wood, is truly awe-inspiring. The interior is equally charming. We discovered unique solutions at every step. For example, the wooden lamps in the restaurant are reminiscent of branches, and wooden hayracks are used as flower planters. The reception is adorned with a wooden box above the fireplace and wooden stalactites hang from the ceiling, while the rooms are equipped with furniture made from bleached larch wood, enabling an authentic experience of this exceptional material.
Since the start of the renovation of the Hotel Bohinj, sustainable principles have been thoroughly observed in the use of energy and water, as well as in waste management and its reduction. You won’t find any single-use plastics here. The hotel’s renovation, which was completed in 2021, made extensive use of natural materials, and the installed equipment is in the lowest classes in terms of energy consumption. The hotel received the EU Eco-Daisy label and the Slovenia Green certificate for their extraordinary efforts in the field of sustainability.
Every detail is important for sustainable action, even one as minor as slippers. Upon arrival, every guest receives slippers made from recycled felt. Each pair is produced by the Kaaita company from four plastic bottles. In 2022 alone, they recycled 41,700 plastic bottles. If stacked one atop another, they would reach half as high again as Mt Everest. The hotel encourages their guests to take these slippers home when they leave, as this sends a little piece of their sustainable philosophy out into the world.
Space that caresses the body and soul
The SPA Hotel Bohinj is not just a place in which to unwind, but an opportunity to discover your internal balance and connect with yourself and nature. Blessed with a stunning view of Mt Triglav and the Alps, it’s almost a sacred space where you can focus on your inner journey and find peace away from the fast tempo of modern life.
Their wellness centre was designed to be in complete harmony with its surroundings, the intention being to provide a unique experience of connecting with nature and discovering internal peace. It enables guests to bond with the authentic energy of the place and the beneficial effects of the surrounding natural environment.
WOOD WE GO
NA OBISKU
Opulent dessert of the Bohinj king with a larch mantle
- Blog; Hotel Bohinj; 27 marca, 2024
In the beginning, when God was handing out land to people, he noticed that a small group, which was standing at the side, was left empty-handed. Because they were humble and shy, he felt sorry for them and gave them the piece of land he had kept for himself. They thus got the best that God intended for humankind: soil, rich with fruits and natural beauty, which is still cherished as a priceless gift of the Creator. The place was called Bohinj because the locals call God “Boh” (Slovenian: Bog).
